Self-performed vs. subcontractor installation
Why these are tracked separately, and how to decide which to use on a given job.
Some shops install everything in-house, some sub it all out, and most do a mix. Tracking both lets you quote either approach without rebuilding the math:
- Subcontractor % — a percentage of subtotal you pay an installer. Quick and predictable; use when the install is fully subbed out.
- Self-performed — your crew's blended hourly rate × estimated hours. More accurate when your team does the work, and it lets you see whether installing in-house is actually more profitable than subbing.
